Recommended Year: 10 but can be used at all levels to achieve CAA Mathematics.

The CAA exams are a crucial component of the year 10 curriculum. Passing them is a requirement of NCEA in following years and they cover a wide range of numeracy skills. This particular course contains modules which deal with the skills required to answer and preparing you best for these crucial tests!

Each course can be used repeatedly for revision and ongoing practice. In fact we recommend this!

Percentage Applications

Relations between fractions, decimals and percentages What is one number as a percent of another?, How to find a percent of a number How to increase a number by a percentage, How to decrease a number by a percentage What percentage did a number change by? Mixed word problems involving percentages

Measurement Applications

Converting units, Scaling units, Choosing appropriate units Finding perimeter and area of rectangles and triangles Finding surface area and volume of cuboids and triangular prisms Using bearings, scales and co-ordinates to interpret features on a map Word problems, linking number and measurement ideas

Interpreting Diagrams

Mean, median, mode, averages Time conversions, interpreting time charts Applying fractions, decimals, percentages, co-ordinates, other number methods using graphs Explaining interesting features, central tendencies, spread for graphs Using mathematics to justify claims. How do we justify claims in mathematics?

Number

Knowing numbers up to billions, using timelines Add, subtract, multiply, divide integers: word problems, integer powers. How to round, Decimal places, Significant figures Identifying patterns, continuing sequences. Understanding and applying concepts related to ratios, rates, and proportional reasoning
