Hamish - 10 years with Impact!

Jean's speech to Hamish

Today is a special day for Hamish and myself. Today is the 10th birthday for Hamish working at mathZwise and Impact Tutoring.

 Thinking about this particular number, I thought it was a great idea to consider some ten facts that Hamish would be interested in;

Ten per cent of the world is left-handed.

Crabs have 10 legs

The Korean alphabet has 10 vowels

10 was a sacred number to Pythagoras

Ten is the highest score possible in Olympic competitions.

The top rim of the basketball goal is always 10 feet above the Court.

In auto racing, driving a race car at ten-tenths means driving as fast as possible.

 Surfers try to hang 10.

The Richter scale is measured in tenfold increase of energy.

10% of the world’s population live on islands.

The fleas that existed in dinosaur times were 10x bigger than today.

Loyalty, consistency, reliability are all values that Hamish holds closely and are key to his 10 year time and his future with Impact.

I have watched Hamish begin as a super confident 16 year old.  I visited him at his parents’ home to ‘interview him’ and he was quite convinced he was exactly what I needed in a new business for a Maths Tutor.

Despite being a creature of habit Hamish has continued to embrace all changes that have come our way when I have instigated new things.  He has accepted the changes and stayed loyal to my leadership throughout this.

This has included a change to a bigger, brighter and way better location.  Shifting from one student to two at any given time for each lesson.  Increasing his hours.  Switching to online with flair and expertise during Covid. And importantly when I flapped my hands around a lot and described things he has gone on to produce outstanding Online maths courses. When I suddenly ‘chat’ to him about things he usually just blinks and says ‘OK then’, one of the few times he has expressed more was recently when I told him we were franchising Impact Tutoring.  The answer then was ‘Well s**t.’

Hamish has the unusual talent of being super intelligent but is still able to relate and teach mathematical topics which are very simple (in Hamish’s world). I would not even begin to be able to count the number of students he has Tutored over the 10 years, what an influence in his community.

He is currently studying gobbly goock stuff at the University and it is exciting to see him stretching to the level he is capable of.

Not many business owners can say they have the stability of such a team member as Hamish.  It is something I don’t take for granted. Now it may be a great time to offer a watch or a voucher to recognise this massive occasion but instead I have this gift for you. From me to you.
